Their relationship runs into trouble when he begins a romance with student Deirdre Swann, so Catherine turns her attention to the reclusive anthropologist Alaric Lydgate, who has a fondness for wearing African masks. Added to this love tangle are the activities of Deirdre's fellow students and their attempts to win the competition for a research grant. The course of true love or academia never did run smooth. 'Her best [novels] are sheer delight, and all of them companionable. Quiet, paradoxical, funny and sad, they have the iron in them of permanence too' JOHN UPDIKE, NEW YORKER 'She can be seriously, hilariously funny - no other novelist has celebrated our national silliness with such exuberance' KATE SAUNDERS

It is the greatest achievement of Saint Thomas Aquinas and one of the most influential works of Western literature and Philosophy. His influence on Western thought is considerable, and much of modern Philosophy was conceived as a reaction against, or as an agreement with, his ideas, particularly in the areas of Ethics, Natural Law, Metaphysics, and Political Theory. It is intended as a manual for beginners in Theology and a Compendium of all of the main Theological teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. It presents the reasoning for almost all points of Christian Theology in the West. The book is famous, among other things, for its five arguments for the existence of God, the Quinque viae. The Summa Theologica's topics follow a cycle: The Existence of God; Creation, Man; Man's Purpose; Christ; The Sacraments; and back to God. The first part is on God. In it, he gives five proofs for God’s existence as well as an explication of His attributes. He argues for the actuality and incorporeality of God as the unmoved mover and describes how God moves through His thinking and willing. The second part is on Ethics. Thomas argues for a variation of the Aristotelian Virtue Ethics. However, unlike Aristotle, he argues for a connection between the virtuous man and God by explaining how the virtuous act is one towards the blessedness of the Beatific Vision (beata visio). The last part of the Summa is on Christ and was unfinished when Thomas died. In it, he shows how Christ not only offers salvation, but represents and protects humanity on Earth and in Heaven. This part also briefly discusses the sacraments and eschatology. The Summa remains the most influential of Thomas’s works. Saint Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican Priest, born near Aquino, Sicily in 1225. He was an immensely influential Philosopher and Theologian in the tradition of Scholasticism, known as Doctor Angelicus. He died in 1274. As one of the 33 Doctors of the Church, he is considered the Church's greatest Theologian and Philosopher. Thomas is held in the Catholic Church to be the model teacher for those studying for the priesthood. He was canonized in 1323. PUBLISHER: CATHOLIC WAY PUBLISHING

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : The stereotype of the "angel investor" is a retired wealthy entrepreneur who sees potential, asks tough questions, takes a large stake, and in a few years makes a massive return in an IPO. This outsider fills the gap between the venture capitalist and the professional investor, swooping in with cash and expertise to bring dreams to fruition. Unfortunately, Shane observes, this figure bears no relationship to reality. In Fool's Gold, he draws on hard data from the Federal Reserve and other sources to paint the first reliable group portrait of the lionized angel investors. Surprisingly, he finds that they are fewer, contribute less, and involve themselves in fewer start-ups than the conventional wisdom suggests. Most angels typically still have their day jobs, make investments of $10,000 or less, and take little or no role in assisting entrepreneurs build their companies. Few of the companies they put money into arrive at IPOs, let alone massive returns. But angels can play a critical role, he writes, if the fantasy is abandoned by all concerned. Drawing on his rich store of data, Shane offers recommendations to entrepreneurs and angels alike for the most productive use of angel investing, and suggests how policymakers can encourage it. Particularly promising are angel groups, which pool knowledge and money for wiser and more productive investments. In groups, angels can rely on each other's expertise, share the labor of performing due diligence, and generally insure that their money is being placed--and used--wisely. Fostering the formation of such groups may be the single most important thing that government can do to boost angel investing. Massively researched and briskly written, Fools' Gold offers the first real resource on this misunderstood aspect of our entrepreneurial system.

After forty years of research in the Biblical text, this book came about while studying Biblical manuscripts in their original Greek. I was given a project by my Greek professor to research the Dead Sea Scrolls. This research changed my life, my belief about time and the books of the Bible. While researching the Dead Sea Scrolls, I found two historical books that were in the Bible during Jesus time on this Earth. So I ask this question: Why did man remove these books? The deeper I studied I discovered that our Bible should have seventy books instead of sixty-six. Six is the number of man and a number representing incompletion. Sixty-six doubles its meaning, and the number 666 needs no explanations. “Men do resist God’s will today” (2 Peter 3:9). While researching the subject I encountered extreme opposition. The books of the Bible should be divisible by seven. So, we are missing one New Testament book and three Old Testament books to make a seventy book Bible. Have we been deceived by our religious leaders and science community? Does all time truly consist in a 7,007-year window? This book is written from the complete seventy-book Bible which was revealed in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Do the scrolls reveal angels mating with the daughters of Adam? Where did the giant human originate? Have we all been lied to about Genesis 6 and the events during the days of Noah? Are angels and demons masquerading as aliens and UFOs in a great end of time deception? Will the dollar collapse by 2022? Will the U.S. be destroyed in one day by 2028? “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come,” (John 16:13-14).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : This book examines the Pietist view of the individual through the writings of the Lutheran "reform orthodox" theologian Heinrich M ̧ller and later Lutheran Pietist August Hermann Francke. While demonstrating the close connection between the two movements, it is concerned primarily with Pietist anthropology. Francke's life and conversion experience are used to introduce the Pietist understanding of the person. The book is divided into a treatment of the person by nature, the inner person (heart, soul, conscience, mind), the will, the role and place of affliction in the person's life, the outer person (the body, neighbor, work, money and possessions, time), and death and the afterlife. Each element of the person is examined from the Pietist's perspective with numerous illustrative quotations taken from the sermons and devotional writings of Francke and M ̧ller, allowing the reader to understand the concerns and methods of Pietist preachers and teachers, to grasp the sources of tension between the Pietists and the "orthodox", and to see more of the red threads which run through the various "renewal" movements in modern church history.

Book excerpt/synopsis : Considered an expert about the Book of Enoch, Dr. Randy Delp has put together an analysis of this ancient book to explain why Jesus and the New Testament writers were not only influenced by the Book of Enoch, they quoted its contents, cited its texts and labeled it Scripture. The teachings of Enoch have influenced every major monotheistic religion including Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism and vestiges can be found in Hinduism, and other ancient religions. The footprints of his teachings are seen throughout every generation and the finality of his message has yet to be fulfilled. Enochs influence in astronomy, history, religion, education, and para-psychology has forged how society thinks today. It is significant to note that the prophet named Enoch, who was born seven generations after Adam and Eve, may be the only person in history who has had a positive effect on every major and minor religion, while nothing negative is ever spoken about him.
